Ending their fall tour with a high-energy pre-Halloween performance, the Swedish electro-pop act Miike Snow turned it up to 11 (literally) at the Hollywood Palladium. With no shortage of fans, fog, and electronic-infused synth rock beats, the show made for one “spooktacular” evening.

The packed house waited anxiously as the show opened with a dense fog cascading into the red-light soaked crowd as ambient electronic beats played. The five members came on stage festively outfitted in black robes and their signature demon-esque masks, as “Enter the Jokers Lair” kicked off the night. The band transcended their masked vigilante personas as they made their way into the angelic vocals of “The Wave,” which were paired with multilayered piano and keyboard notes that turned the crowd into one vivacious dance party.

The emotionally evocative show dove into the deeper cuts of the Happy to You album with a hauntingly hip performance of “Bavarian #1” reminding everyone why they paid their hard earned cash for a ticket. Fan favorites “Burial” and “Silvia” had even the balcony crowd up and grooving, with the set culminating in an epic performance of “Paddling Out”.  When a fuse blew during “Sans Soleil,” the crowd held its collective breath as three minutes passed before the band realized what happened.  “We’ll send you the MP3,” Wyatt calmingly reassured everyone. The night ended with the captivating magic of “Animal,” with the crowd savoring every last drop of them on stage.

The performance left the crowd thirsting for more as the lights flipped on to show nothing but grins on everyone’s face. Overheard in the dispersing crowd, “Dude. Seriously, they’ve still got it.” My thoughts exactly.
